What to Do in Nosara (Real Ideas That Are Actually Worth It)
Nosara isn’t the kind of place where you need a packed itinerary.
Most people come here for a mix of beach time, nature, and a few memorable experiences — not constant activity. That said, there are a lot of options, and it’s not always obvious what’s actually worth your time.
Here’s a simple breakdown to help you decide.
Start Here: What Kind of Trip Do You Want?
Before getting into specific activities, it helps to think about what you’re looking for:
Want something active and adventurous?
More interested in relaxing and slowing down?
Traveling with kids?
Want a mix of nature and culture?
Nosara can be all of those — you just don’t need to do everything.
🌊 Beach Time (Don’t Skip This)
It might sound obvious, but the beach is a big part of the experience here.
Playa Guiones is long, open, and great for:
surfing
walking
sunsets
just spending time outside
A simple beach day with a smoothie or coffee nearby is honestly one of the best things you can do.
🏄♀️ Surfing
Nosara is known for consistent waves, especially in Playa Guiones.
If you’re a beginner:
👉 take a lesson first — it will save you a lot of frustration
If you already surf:
👉 there are plenty of places to rent boards right near the beach
🌿 Yoga & Wellness
Nosara is one of the most well-known yoga destinations in Costa Rica.
Places like Bodhi Tree offer a wide range of classes for all levels, and there are many smaller studios as well.
Massage is also easy to arrange:
in-home services
or spas at places like The Gilded Iguana and Harmony Hotel
🏍️ ATV Tours & Adventure
ATV tours are one of the best ways to explore beyond the main areas.
Options include:
waterfall tours
river splashing
coffee farm experiences
coastal / beach routes
Each one is a little different depending on what you’re looking for.

💦 Waterfalls
There are several waterfalls in the area, but they’re not all the same.
Some require longer rides or hikes, while others are easier to access.

🐢 Wildlife Experiences
If your timing is right, this can be one of the most memorable parts of your trip.
Turtle tours in Ostional during arribadas (mass nesting events) are incredible. You may also see hatchlings depending on the season
There are also wildlife refuge tours at SIBU and IAR. These are great for seeing animals like monkeys and learning about conservation efforts.
🐎 Horseback Riding
Horseback riding is a great way to experience the area at a slower pace.
Sunset rides are especially popular and memorable. It’s generally a good option for families with kids around 5+ as well.
🌴 Ziplining
If you want something a bit more high-energy, ziplining is a fun option.
You’ll ride through the jungle canopy on long lines with great views — it’s one of those things that’s worth doing at least once.
🚤 Boat, Fishing & Ocean Tours
There are several ocean-based options depending on what you’re in the mood for:
fishing trips
catamaran cruises with food and drinks
sunset tours
wildlife spotting
These are usually half-day or full-day experiences.
🍽️ Food & Restaurants
Nosara has a surprisingly wide variety of food for a small town.
Some spots are more about the experience:
mountaintop dining at Coyol
local Costa Rican food at places like Rosi’s
sushi and more modern options at places like Satori
👉 We’ll be putting together a full restaurant guide as well.
